Safety
A plain-English summary.
What can I post?
Gonezo splits items into three groups so removal is realistic for the things people actually need gone. Read the rules below before posting or accepting an offer.
Allowed
- Furniture
- Small appliances
- Boxes
- Household goods
- Mattresses
- Yard items
- Exercise equipment
- Non-hazardous electronics
- General bulky items
Special handling may be required
These items can be posted, but disposal or recycling rules vary by city and county. Both the poster and the remover are responsible for following local disposal rules.
- Refrigerators, freezers, and AC units — may contain refrigerant or Freon and need certified handling.
- Tires and automotive parts.
- Construction debris such as drywall, insulation, lumber, roofing materials, tile, cabinets, doors, or renovation debris.
- Heavy appliances.
- Large debris piles.
- Items that need two people to lift.
- Mattresses in areas with special disposal rules.
Lawful disposal is required. These items may require proper disposal, recycling, or facility drop-off. Do not illegally dump items. Posters and removers are responsible for following local disposal rules.
Prohibited (cannot be posted)
- Hazardous chemicals.
- Paint, solvents, pesticides, or unknown liquids.
- Medical waste.
- Biohazard waste.
- Human or animal waste.
- Fuel, gasoline, propane tanks, or pressurized containers.
- Firearms, ammunition, explosives, or weapons.
- Illegal items or stolen property.
- Asbestos-containing material.
- Loose sharps or needles.
- Leaking or unknown containers.
- Anything requiring a licensed hazardous waste handler.
Items you don't actually have the right to give away, and items that are heavily soiled or infested, are also not allowed.
Meeting safely
- Meet in well-lit, populated places when possible.
- Don't share extra personal information until you've agreed to a pickup.
- Trust your gut. If something feels off, cancel.
- Exact pickup details are intentionally hidden until you accept an offer — keep them inside the app rather than emailing or texting them around.
Reporting issues
If something goes wrong — a no-show, an unsafe situation, an item that wasn't as described — use the Report a problem button on the relevant listing or in your Activity. Reports are reviewed by Gonezo admins and may lead to manual credit grants where appropriate. See the Credit Policy for what credits do and don't cover, or visit the Support page if you need help that doesn't fit a single listing.
Emergencies
If you feel unsafe, leave the situation and contact local emergency services. Gonezo can't respond in real time.
